Angelo Mangiarotti

After completing his studies at Politecnico di Milano in 1948 and spending time as a visiting lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Angelo Mangiarotti established a joint practice with Bruno Morassutt.

An architect, urban planner, and industrial designer, Mangiarotti was working on several projects ranging from table clocks and lamps to buildings and towns, when he was commissioned by Knoll to design a collection of bowls and ashtrays. In creating this collection, Mangiarotti chose specific Italian marbles to enhance the richness of grain, depth of color, and glowing texture imbuing each design a ‘one of a kind’ quality. Knoll introduced the Mangiarotti Glass collection shortly after.
